FAQs
Frequently asked questions about our Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy services here at Tree of Life Psychology!
1
What is Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy?
Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy combines the power of hypnosis and suggestibility with the benefits of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Focusing on your thoughts, behaviours and feelings, we can shift them into more positive and constructive thoughts to help you overcome whatever challenges you are facing, be it longstanding issues in your mind or addressing new thoughts and behaviours that are holding you back.
2
Does the hypnotherapist have control over my mind while in hypnosis?
Not at all, in fact, it is the opposite! Hypnosis is used to enable you to have far greater self-control over your thoughts, feelings and behaviour. During hypnosis, you are in total control and maintain your free will at all times.
3
Can the hypnotherapist make me do something against my will?
No. Hypnosis or the hypnotherapist cannot make you do against your will or values. You are always in control and you choose what suggestions you wish to accept.
4
Will I recall what happens to me while I’m in hypnosis?
Yes. In most cases you will have a full memory of the experience afterwards. For some people it may feel like daydreaming and generally it is a pleasant and relaxing experience. Just as with a daydream you can snap out of it at any time you wish.
5
Can I get 'stuck' in hypnosis?
No. It is not possible to become 'stuck' in hypnosis. During hypnosis you are in control and you are an active participant in the process.
6
Is hypnosis safe?
Yes. Hypnosis is a natural state that we experience daily to some extent, for example when we daydream or we become absorbed in a book or movie.
7
How many hypnotherapy sessions are typically needed to see results?
The number of sessions needed to achieve your goals would depend on the nature of the issues. Generally, however, hypnotherapy is a fast therapeutic approach. Your individualised treatment plan and number of sessions will be agreed with you during the first session.
